One recent study found that 1 in 7 women experience PPD in the year after giving birth, equating to approximately 600,000 mothers in the US receiving PPD diagnoses each year. This presentation will focus on the contextual factors - including psychological, emotional, sociological, historical, and hormonal aspects - that contribute to the emergence of perinatal mood disorders.  Measures to prevent the onset of post partum depression, as well as interventions to promote healing, will be discussed.
